Scratch the Surface

I am always interested to learn the background of the people I work with in real estate.

So many individuals come to this profession after successful careers in another arena and still others manage several “hats” while working in the real estate business. I have met a professional songstress, a fine artist, a wine writer, a former CEO of a large company, registered nurses, world travelers and politicians ( the elected type).  Some are from other countries and have  a colorful cultural heritage to share. Many Realtors have active interests in and spend considerable time working with various charities, quasi government organizations, public institutions and the arts. One new friend is an accomplished Latin dancer, lived for a significant time in Japan and travels regularly to Central America. Linemen for OG and E, an active duty policeman , recognized educators, a Fire Chief and international competitive shooters spice up the mix. All have interesting stories to tell and a background that provides a unique perspective on buying and selling real estate.  The richness and depth of their experience beyond real estate  can bring  unique and valuable perspective to their customers. Scratch the surface and you find they can easily relate to your needs for multiple garages for your car collection ( they have one too), separate quarters for aging parents or grown children who have moved back in with Mom and Dad ( been there, done that) or the myriad other motivations that distinguish a buyers agenda or a sellers needs. Take the time to get to know your Realtor.  You will find them to be interior decorators, accomplished renovators and patient mentors.  The connection can produce a greater affinity for your needs and who knows? You just might make a new friend, find someone who can open a door that has been closed to you, learn how to wallpaper, get your kid accepted to a school, find the best bargains on footstools, make a sought after introduction or find insiders tips on the most amazing restaurants. Realtors don’t just shuffle paper and show houses, they can also open doors metaphorically.

But you have to scratch the surface.
