Broken Record

I am sorry if I sound like a broken record but this issue is not an unreasonable concern that property taxes will not go up with the elimination of the state income tax. In yestarday’s POINT OF VIEW in the OKLAHOMAN state Representative Leslie Osborn basically said it’s an invalid argument because the Oklahoma Constitution forbids a statewide property tax. It doesn’t stop a county from raising and collecting property taxes. When the state won’t have the tax dollars to send to the counties for basic services then the counties will have no other choice but to raise property taxes. This is not rocket science. Without taxation a civil society doesn’t exist. What do you want to live without? Paved roads, 911, a jail, no form of outreach for the mentally ill or hungry or abused. Should a homeowner or landlord have to pay the most to have the services we all need? The thought of no state income tax sounds great but the money has to come from somewhere.
