If you & the family want to get away for a short ski trip but don’t want to drive 9+ hours to Colorado or northern New Mexico and spend thousands of dollars, you can SKI MISSOURI. Yes, you heard me right-skiing in Missouri!! Over Christmas break, my husband & I took the kids on a 2-day trip to Snow Creek in Weston, Missouri, just north of Kansas City. Our girls (age 15 & 12) had never skied and we wanted them to learn. We stayed in the airport area of Kansas City & the drive to the resort was only about 20 minutes.  Snow Creek Ski Resort has over 60 snow making machines with a capacity of up to 3000 gallons of water per minute… or 12″ of machine made snow in a 24 hour period at temperatures of 20 degrees.

SONY DSC The snow was great & the slope of the mountain is just as challenging as the larger resorts, just not as long. The atmosphere at Snow Creek is very laid back & unpretentious; it was the perfect environment for the girls to experience skiing for the first time. We met other Oklahomans-from Tulsa &  Edmond.  Everyone at Snow Creek is extremely nice & helpful and they went out of their way to ensure our family had a good time.  Our girls took a 1 hour group lesson & were on the intermediate slope right after! They skied both

Ski Snow Creek  days non-stop & cannot wait to go skiing again. If we should plan a big ski trip to a major resort, our family wil lnow  be ready to hit the slopes together!  The cost at Snow Creek is far less than the larger ski resorts-all equipment (skis, poles, boots) are included-we chose the 2 day pass at a total of $124. each for adults and $99. kids under 12.  It’s even cheaper if you have your own stuff. The resort opens at noon and close at 9 pm (yes, there are light for night skiing!!)  Snowboarding is a big thing at Snow Creek & they have slopes dedicated just to boarding. Check out their website at www.skisnowcreek.com. It’s a hidden gem for Oklahomans who just want to get away for a ski weekend, but didn’t think that was possible!
